This past weekend we had our Hanover Hustle, Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. It was so much fun. We had a ton of alumni come back and play. In fact, we had so many that they made two alumni teams, a ‘young’ and an ‘old’. By old, I mean people who were around their 30’s. The young team were people who more recently graduated. The other teams that were there were ISU and Berea. Earlham was supposed to but sadly they couldn’t make it last minute. In preparation for the tournament, we painted the spirit rock and got the trophy (a golden Frisbee). One of the alumni hosted a dinner for every Hanover Frisbee player, past and present. That was cool because we got to connect with the past alumni and hang out. We also went over all of our plays during practice. By the end of the week everyone was pumped.
It ended up being fairly cold, but that’s okay. We play in any type of weather! Great thing about this tournament was that it was home. No waking up at 5am. Throughout the tournament the team did a great job communicating and playing a hard defense. On the second day, one of our players decided to dress entirely in pineapple clothing. During certain games we just played to have fun though.
We played four games on Saturday, so on the last game since everyone was tired we decided to mix it up. We split teams evenly so each team was made up of ‘old’ alumni and current students. We even decided to play a dinosaur point. This means you either had to keep your hands in like a T-rex or have your arms completely expanded like a pterodactyl. Even though we did not win the tournament, we still played well and worked as a team.
Good news is that the ‘old’ alumni team did win so the trophy was kept in the Hanover family. Can’t beat experience.
