As a member of Hanover’s women’s basketball team, I am proud of our accomplishments this season. We were second in the conference coming into the HCAC tournament, and most thought our win against the Transylvania University Pioneers would be a long shot, since they were ranked 15th in the nation for Division III.
Everyone thought that Transy would blow away the Panthers in the tournament. However, as a team, we were determined to fight to the end.
In the HCAC championship game, we beat Transylvania 106-98. This was a huge win for us, and we could not have played a better game against Transy.
As the underdogs going into the final game, it was a great feeling to defeat the Pioneers. Overall, the game was an amazing one to be a part of and an exciting game to watch.
Four players for Hanover’s team were in double digits in scoring; it was a team win. We could not have picked a better game to give it all we had. We showed that we deserved every bit of that championship title.
Cutting down the nets and winning that game was one of the best feelings in the world. This HCAC win led us to the Big Dance, aka the NCAA tournament. For the NCAA tournament, we drew DePauw, who are 8th in the nation, and the game took place March 6.
Unfortunately, we fell to DePauw on their home floor. Although we lost the game, it was a great opportunity, and we were all proud of ourselves for making it into the NCAA tournament. Our fans were also extremely supportive of us, and we had many families and supporters travel to DePauw to watch us play.
It’s one of those things in life where if you set out to achieve a goal, you’re only satisfied if you accomplish that goal. Our goal was to win the HCAC tournament. We accomplished that mission. Going to the NCAA tournament was just the icing on the cake.
